Ferrous Sulfate Monohydrate is an inorganic compound that serves as a mining chemical. This compound is a hydrate of Iron (II) Sulfate with one molecule of water. It can be derived by heating the Hepta hydrate form till it loses 6 molecules of its water.

Properties

  • light yellow color, either color less, powder
  • Generally sold as a soluble powder, iron sulfate can be applied either dry or in solution.

Advantages

• as a soil amendment for lowering the pH of a high alkaline soil so plants can more readily access the soil’s nutrients.
• In horticulture it is used for treating iron chlorosis, a yellowing of plant leaves caused by iron deficiency.

Drawbacks

  • Ferrous Sulfate Monohydrate is harmful to aquatic life in very low concentrations.

Application

  • It is used as a source of iron in the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia (generally in solid-dosage treatments; for liquid-dosage treatments, the heptahydrate is normally used). It has a role as a nutraceutical, an anti-anemic agent and a reducing agent. It is a hydrate and an iron molecular entity.
  • Plant growth-used to treating iron chlorosis, yellowing of plant leaves causes by iron deficiency.
