Potassium chloride (KCl, or potassium salt) is a metal halide salt composed of potassium and chlorine. The majority of the potassium chloride produced is used for making fertilizer, called potash. K2O %-62.

Advantages

  • Potash (potassium chloride, KCl) is the most highly valued and widely used potassium fertilizer in the world. Potash efficiently delivers potassium nutrient to the growing crop.
  • Potassium increases disease resistance, drought tolerance, plumpness of grain and seed, and improves stem rigidity.

Drawbacks

  • Potassium chloride is about 40 to 50 percent less expensive per pound of K2O than SOP. The biggest disadvantage of potassium chloride is its high salt indexand chloride content.

Application

  • Potassium chloride is used in the manufacture of potash
  • The potash fertilizers made from KCl (called Muriate of Potash, or MOP) make up the majority of potash fertilizers sold worldwide.
  • KCl is used as a salt substitute in food where a low concentration of sodium in the salt is desired in order to reduce the risk of high blood pressure.
